It’s sweater weather, and pumpkin spice is in the air! The Thanksgiving holiday is approaching, and it’s a good time to make some travel plans. Mexico is one of the best travel destinations for your fall holiday. If you’re thinking about packing your bags and heading to Mexico, consider Cancun as your destination. The weather is fantastic this time of year, and you can find some amazing fall travel deals!

Shoulder Season

Fall is often called the “shoulder season,” because it is in between high season and low season. This makes fall one of the cheapest times to travel to Cancun.

Winter is high season, and summer is low season. In the winter, tourists escape from cold, snowy climates and flock to Cancun’s warm sandy shores to enjoy some much-needed sunshine. Temperatures are perfect and humidity is low in the winter, and as a result, winter is the most expensive time to travel to Cancun.

In the summer, warmer temperatures, higher humidity, and rain force travel prices down, often to the lowest prices of the year, but you can still find a lot of great fall travel deals in the months of September, October, November, and December.

Shoulder season is a great time to visit Cancun. You’ll find lots of sun and a low chance of rain. Hotel rates are much lower than in the high season, especially if you book in advance or stay for longer than five nights.

November is the least crowded month of the year in Cancun, and is also often the best-priced month as well.

Black Friday, Cyber Week and Buen Fin Sales

Black Friday – the day after Thanksgiving – is well known for being the day that every business offers super discounts and sales. Black Friday 2022 is a very big deal. Some businesses offer early Black Friday deals to jumpstart the holiday season. This makes it a very good time to look for discounted airfare and hotel accommodations.

In recent years, Cyber Monday was added as the big day for online sales. Now, Cyber Monday has been extended to Cyber Week, in hopes of boosting online sales during the end of November through the beginning of December.

In addition, Mexico has its own super savings day called “Buen Fin,” which is the weekend prior to the Mexican Revolution holiday in November each year. Buen Fin is typically 4 days. Airlines and hotels offer their best prices to travelers during all of these sale days, and you can also find great deals on other things you might need for your trip such as car rentals or tours.

Resort Deals

When booking your trip to Cancun, it’s a good idea to check with the resort and ask if they have any discounts or perks that you can take advantage of.

For example, Villa del Palmar Cancun, a top luxury beach resort just 30 minutes from Cancun’s International Airport, is offering great fall travel deals this year. Take advantage of the Black Friday and Cyber Week promotions to get special rates, a 15% discount on spa services at the Village Spa, and your kids can stay for free, too. There are other great deals that you can score all available on Villa del Palmar Cancun’s Special Offers and Packages webpage. Click here to view all current resort deals. You can also call the resort directly to make your reservation at +1 877 845 3795.

Direct Flights

Many airlines have direct flights to Cancun from most major cities in the United States and several cities in Europe. Airlines are giving great deals right now to try to accommodate travelers. Airports throughout Mexico have implemented enhanced safety protocols, including temperature-taking, health screening questionnaires, improved cleaning protocols, and hand sanitizer dispensers everywhere. Many restaurants in airports have gone to digital-only menus where you scan a QR code to see the menu right on your phone instead of touching a paper menu. Make sure to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight, as added security and safety protocols can add some time to the normal airport routine.

Fall Weather in Cancun

Fall weather in Cancun is pleasant. You can expect a lot of sunshine, little rain, and less humidity than the summertime. The weather is perfect for hitting the beach, going on excursions, or exploring Mayan ruins and cenotes.

At night and early in the morning the temperatures are usually warm to cool, especially starting to cool down in December.

Early November is the last of the rainy season. Between the beginning and end of November, rain and humidity dry up, and the weather transitions into that perfect winter weather that Cancun is known for. The average high temperature in November is 84°F. On average, it rains on 8 days during November, with 3.75 inches of average rainfall for the month. The water is still warm, with an average ocean temperature of 82°F.

In December, the days are warm but pleasant and dry, and temperatures cool down at night. The dry season officially begins in the second half of December. The average high temperature is 82°F. There can be some slight rain in December, but not much, with an average of 7 days with rain, and an average of 2.75 inches of rain for the month. The average ocean temperature is 80°F. In December you will find the weather to be beautiful, perfect for lounging on the beach, swimming, or taking tours.

Swimming, Snorkeling and Scuba Diving

If you like swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving, fall is a great time to visit Cancun. The oceans, reefs, and cenotes around the Cancun area are great fun all year round, but water temperatures are more comfortable for swimming in the fall, and the visibility is good.

The water temperature is warmest in summer and coldest in winter, so fall is a good time to find water that is not too hot and not too cold. Rainy season can make the water a bit muddy, with runoff pouring into the sea. In the fall, the rain dies down and the water clears up.

If you like snorkeling and scuba diving, you can book a tour to Isla Mujeres, MUSA Underwater Museum, or Punta Nizuc located at the south end of the Hotel Zone. In these areas, the water is usually calm, clear, and full of marine life. Visibility for snorkeling and diving is best from November through May, so now is the beginning of the best time of year.

The concierge at Villa del Palmar can book snorkeling and diving tours for you, or recommend the best spots for swimming.

Baby Sea Turtle Releases

Fall is also a good time to baby sea turtles hatching in Cancun. Adult sea turtles begin nesting in May and finish laying their eggs in October. Baby sea turtles hatch through December and make their journeys to the sea. While in Cancun you can find notifications about where and when turtle releases are happening, and the concierge at Villa del Palmar can also help you find this information.

So, head down to Cancun this fall, and enjoy the best of what Mexico has to offer!
