Use your Common Sense!
Above and beyond everything, you must use your common sense whilst on vacation in Mexico (or any location around the world). If you don’t go looking for trouble, i.e. you don’t try to buy drugs or do things you wouldn’t do at home, then you are unlikely to find it. We know you’ll want to enjoy some nights out, and the tourist hotspots in Mexico are truly wonderful for partying, and you most certainly should; simply exercise good judgement, and you’re certain to have a good evening.
Stick Together
This good judgement extends to sticking with your traveling companions in the clubs and bars, and most importantly when leaving them. The last thing you would want is to get lost while under the influence of alcohol in a foreign country, Stick together and you’re sure to have a fun, safe night.
Sticking together also goes for exploration, too; some of the best sights in Mexico lie off the beaten path, but taking your friends/family with you when you go exploring is the surest way to stay safe while you experience the natural and historic glory of nature. This is not just about the possibility of getting lost, of course. Should you fall sick, whether it be sunstroke or over-indulgence in the bar, it always helps to have familiar faces to care for you and shepherd you home safely.
Understand You Aren’t Above the Law
You wouldn’t think that this would be a real issue, but it actually is; many people, especially young people, come to Mexico from the USA, or Europe, and think that their status as a foreign national protects them from the locals laws. This is just not the case. Exercise basic decency and do not do here what you would not do at home. This golden rule is the best way to ensure your safety when you vacation in Mexico (or anywhere).
