Tequila, Tequila, Tequila!

When you think about taking a vacation to Mexico, one of the first drinks that springs to mind is tequila. A national icon and beloved beverage, tequila is an integral part of the Mexican experience, whether that be taken straight, in a margarita or the flavor of your dessert!

Villa del Palmar Cancun honors Mexico’s tequila tradition with a Tequila Wall located behind the bar at Zamá, the resort’s specialty Mexican restaurant. Zamá’s collection of tequila claims more than 43 labels as well as a small selection of mescal, another of Mexico’s fine traditional liquors. Why not ask to see the most expensive bottle of tequila in the collection, the silver tequila from Casa de Dragones, which could set you back more than $600 USD per bottle!

Guests staying at the resort are encouraged to go and see the tequila wall or ask the Zamá waiters to recommend a tequila to complement your meal. Tequila pairing, just like wine pairing, can make all the difference to your Mexican dining experience. You might also wish to try both mescal and tequila to see if you can notice the difference.
Mescal is made from a type of green cactus called maguey and has a much more smoky flavor, originating from the regions around the state of Oaxaca, while tequila is made solely from the Blue Agave cactus, which is native to the western regions of Mexico around the state of Jalisco.
