Over the last five or so years, Cancun has become a leader amongst tropical destinations for South Asian weddings worldwide, and one of the most popular locations in Mexico for Hindu, Sikh, Gujarati, Punjabi, Jain, Sindhi, Persian and Arabic weddings, amongst others. South Asian Weddings – Indian, Persian, Arabic
Having previously hosted a number of beautiful South Asian weddings at the Villa del Palmar resort in Cancun, including Persian, Arabic and a number of different Indian tradition weddings, Karina was able to extend her knowledge of the various rituals, ceremonies and decorative requirements that are customary to the different types of South Asian weddings.
South Asian Wedding Institute
The wedding certification, authorized by the Cultural Center at the Indian Embassy, was held in Cancun in July 2015 by the South Asian Wedding Institute, which is a US based international organization that offers courses to train professionals in the wedding sector on the subtleties and requirements of South Asian weddings. With such a wide variety of wedding traditions and customs within the scope of Indian and Muslim weddings, it is important to receive the right training to be able to offer wedding parties the services and experiences they need.
“There is so much to learn about South Asian weddings; there are so many beautiful traditions,” shares Karina Peña, Villa del Palmar Cancun’s senior wedding planner. “We make a point of listening very carefully to the specific wishes of all the couples that join us to get married, but in particular our South Asian guests are really appreciative when we show that not only do we know what they are talking about, but we also have the means to be able to create the experiences that are part of their traditions.”
The South Asian wedding certification covered valuable training on the most important aspects of the most popular types of South Asian wedding traditions, including Hindu, Sikh, Gujarati, Punjabi, Jain, Sindhi, Persian and Arabic rituals and customs. Professional wedding planners and coordinators learned about the various ceremonies, rituals, decorations, customs and cuisine as well as the cultural profile of the guests who will be attending these weddings and their preferences in terms accommodations, dining and service style.
