Davino Earns Wine Spectator’s 2021 Award of Excellence

Davino Restaurant at Villa del Palmar Cancun was Recognized with Wine Spectator’s 2021 Award of Excellence for having one of the World’s Best Wine Lists.

CANCUN, MEXICO (July 2021) — Villa del Palmar Cancun Luxury Beach Resort & Spa has 415 suites and five world-class restaurants. Davino Restaurant is among them, which specializes in Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, and it has been honored for its outstanding wine program in Wine Spectator’s 2021 Restaurant Awards.

In 1981, Wine Spectator began its program to recognize the world’s best wine lists. And since then, for the 40th consecutive year running, the annual program has recognized restaurants all around the world. There are three levels: the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award—with 1,673; 1,141; and 3 winners this year in each respective category. This year, 2,917 restaurants in 72 countries and territories received these prestigious awards.

Davino is honored to have earned Wine Spectator’s 2021 Award of Excellence based on its impressive 120-selection list, which features wines from France, Chile, Italy, Mexico, and the USA. Davino has an inventory of 1,200 bottles. To receive the Award of Excellence, the restaurant must offer a wine list with at least 90 different thoughtfully chosen selections that represent a range of regions and pair well with the type of cuisine offered. To receive the program’s highest honor, the Grand Award, restaurants typically must offer 1,000 or more selections and pass a rigorous wine cellar and restaurant inspection.

Martin Ek is in charge of the wine program and he works across all of the restaurants at Villa del Palmar Cancun. He works tirelessly, not only to recommend wines, but also to take guests on a culinary journey based around wine.
