While most of us are thinking about relaxing on the beach or enjoying a spa treatment during our stay at Villa del Palmar Cancun, you might be surprised to hear that there are those who have arrived to Cancun specifically to participate in the city’s 29th annual marathon that will take place this year on Sunday December 8 with a 5.30am starting line.
Competitors can choose to enter the full or half marathon that takes a looping route around the main hotel area in Cancun, offering stunning views of the Nichupte Lagoon on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other. Both the half and full marathon start and end on Avenida Bonampak in the old town, with the halfway return at the Mirador. Well wishers and supporters are invited to line the streets to cheer runners as the sun rises.

All entries are subject to a registration fee that includes medals, electronic timing, photos, a video finish, a T-shirt, and a pre-race pasta party the day before the marathon, amongst other services during and after the race.
For those worrying about the weather, December is a great times for a marathon in Cancun. With very little probability of rain and lower temperatures, particularly early in the morning, most competitors will have finished the route by the time the sun gets too hot to run. Runners also have the added advantage of enjoying a spa massage to relieve the strains on the body caused by extensive exertion.
