How to Quench your Thirst at the Beach

Table of Contents

Sun, sea, and sangria… we all know this combination, and notice how incomplete it would seem without the last part. Refreshment is a key part of any lazy day on the beach; a frosty drink in one hand is key to a good sunbathing session (just remember your sunblock!). Here are our favourite drinks to enjoy while you curl your toes in the sand:

Water!

Water

What, we hear you cry, but this is vacation! Well, that’s true, but staying hydrated is an essential ingredient to any good vacation! Dehydration will lead to fatigue, headaches, and even urinary infections if you top it with soaps and alcohol… so just have a glass of water every two or three cocktails and you’ll stay beach and vacation ready all day. If you’re not big on plain water why not add cucumber, lemon, or lime slices to the mix?

Margarita

Margaritas

Margaritas are perhaps quintessential to a Mexican vacation, as they are the most indelibly linked with this festive country. Traditionally speaking the margarita is made with tequila, triple sec (this is an orange flavoured liqueur), and some lime juice with a little salt around the rim. In its most traditional form this is served on the rocks, but is often blended these days, and can be twisted with some fruity flavors like strawberry, peach, and mango.

Tequila Sunrise

Tequila Sunrise

Can you drink in Mexico without having tequila? We think you shouldn’t, and there are few better ways to enjoy tequila than in an iconic Tequila Sunrise cocktail. This glamorous, pretty, and delicious cocktail is made by laying down unmixed layers of tequila, orange juice, and grenadine in a tall glass. This cocktail first came to be in the 1970’s, but has weathered the test of time beautifully.

Ice-cold Beer

Ice-cold Beer

There are few things as satisfyingly simple and tasty as an ice-cold beer on a hot day, and Mexico has some truly delectable home-grown beer brands to try.

Mojito

Mojito

Mojitos are some of the most widely available and loved cocktails in the world, and there are all kinds of twists on it. The classic Mojito consists of just five ingredients which deliver a sweet and refreshing drink which is ideal for cooling off: lime juice, cane sugar, spearmint leaves, rum, and soda water. Generally there is also some ice to keep it nice and chilly.

Sangria

Sangria

While sangria is most often associated with Spain and Portugal, as it is from this part of the world which it originates, you will find sangria served in Mexico too. Usually Sangria consists red wine, chopped fruit, and some brandy which has been steeped for a few days. In Mexico,, it is common to swap the brandy for some limonada (limeade made with sparkling water) which makes a lighter, tangier, and effervescent drink.
