While vacationing at Villa del Palmar Cancun it is well worth planning a trip to Playa del Carmen, and it is so easy to do. It is only about an hour from Villa del Palmar Cancun by car. Playa del Carmen is smaller than Cancun but has a more bohemian vibe with lots of bars and boutiques as well as some beautiful beaches. It is also where you take the ferry if you wish to visit the island of Cozumel.

A full or half day trip to Playa del Carmen is totally doable and pretty stress free, even if you plan to do it yourself by bus, taxi or hiring a car. Alternatively, tours are available for those who just want to sit back and be chauffeured from door to door.  Arriving to Playa del Carmen in the early morning is recommended for a great day trip or you could arrive in the afternoon if you are planning to dine and hit the bars.

Some of the pastimes you can enjoy in Playa del Carmen include swimming with dolphins, shopping, lounging at the beach, watersports and fishing tours; as the sun goes down at night you will find great restaurants and exciting nightlife. Guests wishing to stay until late can easily take a taxi home when the clubs close in the early hours.

From Cancun, the distance is only an hour away and guests staying at Villa del Palmar Cancun have several different options, which include public transportation, renting a car, taking a taxi or choosing an organized tour. Some people also choose to hire a taxi to be your driver for the day taking you to Playa del Carmen and other attractions along the Riviera Maya like cenotes and Mayan Ruins. Many people opt for a long day trip combining half a day in Playa del Carmen and half a day in Tulum.

Fifth Avenue is the main attraction in the city. When you arrive to Playa del Carmen make sure you have plenty of energy, because as you start to walk down Fifth Avenue and see the beautiful vibrant painted boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, bars, and artisan stalls, you will want to spend all day browsing. This pedestrian area is designed for visitors to walk and enjoy the surrounds, and is safe anytime of the day or night. Families and couples are often seen during the day while in the evening Fifth Avenue becomes busier, filled with visitors looking to enjoy fine dining and traditional foods. Later in the evening, the vibrant nightlife begins.

The beach at Playa del Carmen is also a worth a mention. Here you can perform all kinds of different water activities as well as relaxing and soaking up the sun. There are beach vendors that sell dresses, homemade jewelry, sunhats and beachwear, and you can even get a henna tattoo or get your hair braided before you head back to Cancun.

Last but not least, vacationers can reach the Island of Cozumel from Playa del Carmen, as ferries leave regularly. You may choose to kill two birds with one stone and visit the Island of Cozumel and Playa del Carmen in one day, although you must plan to arrive early in the morning and leave later at night. Visiting Cozumel in the morning and returning in the afternoon to enjoy Playa del Carmen’s nightlife is perhaps the best combination.
