Nonetheless it is, and for good reason as the courses in and around Cancun are among the best in Mexico. You will find a healthy mix of championship standard, beginner level and fun courses many of which were designed or endorsed by professionals like Jack Nicklaus, Robert Von Hagge and Greg Norman.

Costa Mujeres Golf Club
This is the only golf course in Mexico which has been recognised by EWG (the Executive Women’s Golf Association) and actually ranks among the top 10 courses in the country. Costa Mujeres Golf Club is pretty much a hole in one when it comes to good golfing experiences. What makes it so special? Costa Mujeres Golf Club was built by Greg Norman and is located right next door to the Villa del Palmar Cancun beach resort. It makes full use of the environment, too, and incorporates water holes, mangroves, greens and bunkers – it even has two holes that look directly onto the Caribbean Sea. When you’ve had your fill of the golf course you can head up to the Clubhouse for a steak sandwich and an ice-tea. Certainly our favorite to recommend to our guests. Cancun Golf Club at Pok ta Pok
Pok ta Pok Golf Club was built in 1976 from a design created by Robert Trent Jones Jr and is the oldest (and most prestigious) golf club to be found in Cancun. It’s also very easy to get to from Villa del Palmar Cancun as it sits in the city’s hotel zone. Pok ta Pok’s claim to fame is it’s skilful integration of Mayan ruins and the stunning Cancun coastline into the 18 hole 72 par golf course. The bunkers, ruins and slopes will challenged even the most seasoned of golf pros. Beginners, however, are welcome and can hone their skills on driving range and putting greens while their families, should they want to come along, make use of the tennis courts, Pro shop and restaurant. The restaurant overlooks Nichupte Lagoon and the hotel zone, so the views are wonderful.
Riviera Maya Golf Club
The Riviera Maya Golf Club is one of the largest clubs in the area, covering 720 acres with a par 36, 9 hole course of exceptional quality. Here you can ensure your all-important warm up is completed in style at the wonderful driving, putting and chipping ranges, and you can tweak your performance with the on-site GPS technology which will give you access to virtual maps of the greens and calculate the distance between the ball and the green. Furthermore the elegant clubhouse has two restaurants, a pool and sports bar, a store with equipment and clothing, a gym and two tennis courts.
Moon Spa & Golf Club
The Moon Spa & Golf Club is one of the many championship standard courses which can be found in and around Cancun, but it is the only other course in the area to have been designed by Jack Nicklaus. It is also the greenest of courses as it has been designed to remain as faithful as possible to the environment in which it is placed. It’s made of paspalum grass, surrounded by mangroves and interspersed with wetlands. The dynamic landscape of this Golf Club will challenge all players from the most experienced to the complete novice. The sea views here will only make for a more pleasant experience, too, and possibly some good photo opportunities! Moon Spa & Golf Club also has two restaurants, an Italian and an Asian, and there is a swimming pool to work off dessert. Be sure to make use of the storage lockers and lessons that are available, too.
Playacar Spa & Golf Club
A little further afield for Villa del Palmar Cancun guests, Playacar Spa & Golf Club is one of the most stunning examples of a luxury golf course to be found in the area. Designed and created under the guidance and supervision of Robert Von Hagge Playacar, this golf course is picturesque, elegant and environmentally appropriate. This championship course combines the influence of the jungle, sea, and landscape of the Riviera Maya and Cancun, covering 7,000 yards and including 18 holes. As far as par 72 courses go, this is one of the most challenging near Cancun.
